Villacourt Monthly Meeting

Date: January 5th, 8:15pm

Location: Croftons

Present:

Stuart Stotesbury (Club Secretary, U14) Peter Hoare (Chairman, U18), Sean Turner (Treasurer), Nick Hatcher (Child Welfare Office, U15 Blue), Deborah Scotland (Fixtures Secretary), Vickie Hatcher (Head of Mini-soccer, U9 Blue), Mick Barker (U10 Blue), Ibrahim Murphy (U15 Yellow), Mick Bentley (U15 Red)

Matters Arising

(Letters within square brackets indicate the league ([S]elkent, [K]ent or [B]exley) that the matter relates to. The absence of any league indication means that the matter is club-wide)

Child Protection Issues (Please ask for any further information regarding the individuals below)

  • [S] M**** J**** (26) of Stockwell, SW9 may not participate in any football activity involving children under the age of 16 years
  • [S] C**** L**** (32) of Norwood, SE27 may not participate in any football activity involving children under the age of 18 years

Leagues

  • [S] Managers are reminded that a change to the rules this season means that goal difference is no longer taken into account in deciding position when teams are tied on points. Instead it will be the head-to-head results between the two teams and then, if still tied, on the number of games won with finally a play-off between the two teams if tied on games won. However, it is not possible to have the league tables displayed on Selkent (and Villacourt) websites reflect that rule, and so managers are asked to be aware and to inform their players and parents that the league tables should not be treated as necessarily showing the correct order when teams are tied on points.
  • [S] Transfers and registrations may take place up until the last day of February.

Club

  • A discussion was had amongst those present around the potential changes to youth soccer being proposed by the FA. Following much dissent from the leagues and their members, it was resolved that the Club Secretary should be asked to represent the club in making our collective views known. Those views were that broadly, we see the proposals as a whole as being unworkable.

End-of-Season Presentation

  • Following the apparent lack of interest in holding a "fun-day" at Croftons for the end-of-season presentation, further discussion was had about the possible alternatives. In the end it was propose to scale down the plans for such a fun-day and instead to plan for an end-of-season barbecue at Croftons at which all club awards (i.e. excluding individual team/player awards) would be made. Teams can decide whether to hold their own team awards at that event or to make their own alternative arrangements. The financial terms of both the barbecue and any team event are still to be decided by the committee. The club will continue to provide trophies to each team for them to hand out as they choose, the barbecue will be a paid-ticket event and although the club will not provide money to teams who wish to do their own thing, the committee will endeavour to support teams who decide to combine to hold joint events or other such arrangements. However, it is hoped that all teams will encourage a large turnout at the barbecue and further discussions will take place about this.

Next Meeting

  • The next meeting is planned for Thursday February 2th, 8.15pm at Croftons. All managers are welcome to attend but it is optional providing all subs owing have been paid to the Treasurer by this date.
